and far away...
mistake

you spoke your mind
and you didn't think
you pledged to be truthful
but that's a lie.
you had no right
but you were too clueless to realize
too wrapped up in your own image of perfection
too wrapped up in yourself.
you don't seem to see
that the same things you said about me
are the same things that can be said about you
and they would ring more true
because you don't know.
you don't think.
you don't care.
that your words would hurt
because they're wrong
and you insist you're right
and you don't believe in me anymore.
you toss your words
with negligent ease
and it's clear to me that
every word you say
falls through the hole in your head
without passing through your brain.
and you read my words
but you do not see
and you do not hear.
in your selfish world,
you see what you want to see
you believe what you want to believe
and you believe that only you
and people who think like you
can be right
perfect
beautiful.
and the mistake was as much mine
as it was yours
in placing so much of myself
in your careless
mindless
heartless
thoughtless
hands.
